CITIZEN SHARE TITLE TRACK OFF UPCOMING ALBUM ‘HALCYON BLUES’
'HALCYON BLUES' OUT FRIDAY 7 AUGUST VIA RUN FOR COVER/CIVILIANS
Toledo, OH rock powerhouse, Citizen, recently announced their highly anticipated new album, Halcyon Blues, and today they're back to share its moving title track.
Arriving 7th August via Run For Cover Records/Civilians (available to pre-order on vinyl and CD here), Halcyon Blues is a dynamic, confident release that draws on nearly two decades of musical and personal growth to emphatically declare what their dedicated fans already know: Citizen are one of our great modern rock bands–and they’re at the absolute top of their game.
"Halcyon Blues" follows lead single "Highs and Lows" which drew immediate acclaim from fans and critics alike, including Stereogum (#1 best new songs of the week), Consequence (best new songs of the week), BrooklynVegan (favourite songs of the week), VICE (songs you need to hear), and more. Where "Highs and Lows" offered a big dose the bold alternative rock that Citizen excel at, "Halcyon Blues" leans into the more lush side of the band. It's a cut of emotive indie that gently unfolds from plaintive verses into an expansive chorus that showcases just how wide-reaching Citizen's songwriting has become.
Vocalist Mat Kerekes shed some light on the song's lyrics, saying "It’s about a silent disconnect between two people. You both know you’re no longer meant to be in each other’s lives but instead of accepting it, you sit in the space between and watch one another become strangers in real time."

Last in Australia in 2024 as headliners of New Bloom Festival, Citizen will return next February to celebrate their new album on their biggest Australian headline run to date. The tour will hit The Tivoli in Brisbane, Liberty Hall in Sydney, The Forum in Melbourne, The Gov in Adelaide and Magnet House in Perth.
Joining them on every date are Drug Church. For the past few years, the Albany and Los Angeles-based five-piece have been staunchly creating their own singular path in making distinctly outsider music that’s somehow at once welcoming and instantly satisfying. The band’s songs revel in sonic contradictions, seamlessly combining crushing aggression with bulletproof hooks, while the lyrics unflinchingly explore life’s darkness and discomfort with sardonic wit—and without judgement. Their last Australian visit came in 2023 for intimate Melbourne and Sydney shows, this time, they return for a full national run and first-time appearances in new cities.
Tickets for Citizen's Australian Tour are available now via Destroy All Lines. "Halcyon Blues" is out now and streaming everywhere. Halcyon Blues the album will be available Friday 7 August via Run For Cover/Civilians. Available to pre-order on vinyl and CD here.
